When I had started my professional career in Web design & development in the mid of 2005, a simple objective of every client/customer was to register their web presence by developing simple websites, promoting their services & products online. The Trend of businesses was to develop social networking sites like Orkut, multi-level marketing business site or purely affiliate sites. Designing of such sites was so simple carrying similar layouts & templates and most of the time without any new creativity. Customers were also happy by changing the colors and replacing their logos & get the site ready in a day or two. Mostly, the users of websites were never bothering about UI & UX.

Web Design service providers were designing based on their common sense and which they liked themselves. No standard input gathering methods for design, no research and no thought process about how the end user will interact with your system. It was designer’s responsibility for look & feel and presentation of websites. Programmers were only responsible for adding code in given design (HTML).

Now the trend is something different where if your end user is happy with the User interface and carries good user experience then & then only it assures you a return on investment on products or portals. The customer wants to come up with something different, unique and creative designs to stand in competition and capture potential markets and thus new technologies are emerging in IT sector daily.

Recently read the good article by Gartner, estimates by 2020, 100% of IT roles will require an intermediate level of proficiency in business acumen

So now programmers and designers need to be so smart in designing the products by providing a research-based & practical understanding of insights of UI & UX fields, it is not designer’s job but more than that of managers, leaders & programmers also. The bottom line would be UI & UX generates more business for you indirectly.

“The sooner something gets done, the better things will be”, early adoption of change always increase your market value and stabilizes yourself in a very dynamic market competition.
